Degree in History (USP, 1980), Master's in Social Anthropology (Unicamp, 1986), Doctorate (1993), Habilitation (USP, 1998), Title (USP, 2005). Senior Professor at the Department of Social Anthropology (USP) and Global Scholar and Visiting Professor at Princeton, (since 2011) and Affiliated Scholar Brazil Lab. Publisher of Companhia das Letras. Member of the IHGB, member of the board of Revista Etnográfica (Lisbon), Revista Penélope (Lisbon). She is a member of the Advisory Committee for Human Rights Whatch's Americas Division" (2020), of the Council of the Vladimir Herzog Institute, of the Portuguese Language Museum and of the Tornavoz Institute and the IPHAN Advisory Board (2023). She was a visiting professor and researcher at the universities of Leiden, Oxford, Brown, Columbia (as Tinker Professor), Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Science Sociales.
