Graduated in Medicine by the University of São Paulo (1976), Brazil, and got his PhD degree in Internal Medicine - Universität Düsseldorf (1980), Germany. Worked as a Post-Doctor at the Department of Pathology from the Faculty of Medicine of Toronto, Canada (1989 and 1995). Nowadays is a Full Professor and Senior Professor at the University of São Paulo, Department of Food and Experimental Nutrition, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo. Has experience in the area of Nutrition, with emphasis on Diet, Nutrition and Cancer, acting mainly on the following topics: cancer; hepatocarcinogenesis, chemoprevention with bioactive food compounds (BFCs), mainly isoprenoids. To assess the possible chemopreventive activities of the CBAs, his group uses computerized image analysis techniques (immunohistochemistry), as well as Molecular Biology. .
