Professor Gerson Chadi. Scientific Biography. FMUSP. University of Sao Paulo Medical School (FMUSP). Medical Doctor (1985). PhD in Neuroscience (1991). Instructor (1988), Assistant (1991), Associate (1997) and Full Professor (1998) at the University of São Paulo. He specialized in Neurodegenerative Diseases and Advanced Research on Regeneration of Nervous Central System in periods he spent as Post-doctoral fellow at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden (1991-1994), the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry - University of Toronto and the Montreal Neurological Institute - McGill University (1999 ). He introduced in Brazil the fundamentals of the concepts and research in the Central Nervous System Regeneration (1994) and was one of the signatories of the Beijing Letter which created the Neurorestauratology Discipline in the field of Neurology. He is currently Full Professor, and Head of the Translational Unit, the Translational Laboratory (LIM45) and the Neuroregeneration Research Center of Department of Neurology, University of São Paulo School of Medicine (FMUSP). He introduced the first Brazilian Systematic Translational Research on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, bench to bed side, 2010), being responsible for various clinical and laboratory projects on ALS research. He coordinates the Neurological Genomic Project and the DNA bank of the Department of Neurology. He was the Vice-Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Neurology, FMUSP (CAPES, level 5) and represents your Department at the Research Committee of FMUSP. His project on CELL THERAPY was selected by the Scientific Committee of the Medical Research Laboratories (LIMs) of FMUSP. He joined the Advisory Board of the "Center for Research and Neuroscience and Behavior (NEC) of USP", in the area of Neuroplasticity and Development for 10 years. He has experience on Neurosciences and Translational Neurology, with emphasis in Cell and Molecular Biology in the areas of neurodegenerative diseases with focus on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, therapeutic targets, cell therapy, neuroplasticity, neuroprotection, neuroregeneration. He published 100 scientific peer reviewed papers in International Scientific Journal, graduated over than 80 Master, PhD and post doctors students.
