Birthplace: Brazil

I am a lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Saint Andrews. I studied History at Universidade Federal Fluminense, and I did my masters at the Universidade de Sao Paulo and my PhD at the University of Oxford. I am interested in the social and cultural history of the Roman Empire, especially in the late antique period, dealing with topics that allow me to combine different types of evidence - literary, epigraphic and archaeological. In my PhD I studied the history and archaeology of the city of Rome in Late Antiquity, and since then I have dealt with topics like the statue-habit in the West, the religious history of the Roman Empire and the relationship between material culture and civic life in Roman cities.
