Ricardo Fontes Mendes is a Brazilian multimedia investigative journalist, twice winner of the Tim Lopes Award for Investigative Journalism (ANDI, UN, Childhood Foundation/Kingdom of Sweden). Mendes trains African journalists to produce stories about corruption, human rights, childhood and development, teaching how to apply new technologies to improve the work of reporters, editors and to protect and guarantee the security of the young journalists. As a media professional he received the title of Child-Friendly Journalist, offered by ANDI, UNICEF, Save the Children and Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency of Brazil for all his work in childhood and youth advocacy. Mendes graduated from the Catholic University of Campinas, in Sao Paulo. He is Master in Social Sciences from the Federal University of São Carlos. In the last two years, formed at least 200 new investigative journalists and multimedia professionals in Mozambique, where he is Director of Capacity Building in Mozambique Media Strengthening Program, implemented by the international NGO IREX and supported by the government of the United States of America, through its International Development Agency (USAID).
