Jefferson Alvares is a counsel at the Central Bank of Brazil, holds a master of laws (international finance) degree from Harvard University and a bachelor of laws degree from the University of São Paulo. He has served as a counselfor the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a member of secretariat atthe Financial Stability Board and a World Bank consultant. He is interested in the institutions and policies of the national and international monetary and financial systems. His academic production includes work on the definition of a security, the optimal institutional structure for financial regulation, the relationship between currency and state power, monetary sharing mechanisms, and the resolution of unviable financial institutions. He has ledtraining programs on central bank law and legal aspects of the supervision and resolution of financial institutions at IMF training centers in Mauritius, Vienna and Kuwait.
