Marcus Vinícius Chamon Schmidt, He holds a degree in Forestry from the Federal University of Santa Maria - UFSM (1994), a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2001) with the title: KAIABI ETHNOSILVICULTURE IN THE XINGU INDIGENOUS PARK - MT. SUBSIDIES FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF FOREST RESOURCES and a PhD from the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Science (PROCAM) of the Institute of Energy and Environment - IEE of the University of São Paulo - USP (2024), with the title GENTE DA FLORESTA: A IMPORTANCE OF THE ATLANTIC FOREST IN THE LIFE AND IDENTITY CAIÇARA OF THE COMMUNITIES OF JUREIA-ITATINS, SOUTH COAST OF SÃO PAULO. He was a CNPq scholarship holder in the project Survey of knowledge and practices of indigenous peoples and local communities: contribution to IPBES reports, contributing to the topic of soil degradation and biodiversity conservation. He specializes in participatory floristic inventories and research into traditional systems for classifying ethnopastures. In my projects, I try to take this local knowledge into account in order to build models for biocultural restoration in forest landscapes and the recovery of degraded land with traditional peoples and communities. He has worked on projects with Amazonian indigenous peoples, in the Xingu Indigenous Territory (MT) and in other locations in the Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes. He was a Technical Consultant for the National Policy for Environmental Management in Indigenous Lands (PNGATI), Ministry of the Environment MMA / United Nations Development Program (UNDP/UN), for the creation of Decree 7.747, which establishes the National Policy for Environmental Management in Indigenous Lands. He was coordinator of the Natural Resource Management and Development of Economic Alternatives Project for the Xingu Program of the Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA). He has developed inventories of the productivity of vegetable oils, training indigenous natural resource management agents and advising on projects for local associations and communities, the impacts of forest fires and management plans for the conservation or recovery of plants of cultural and/or economic importance.
