Cristiana Simão Seixas, is a Biologist and holds a Master degree in Ecology from the University of Campinas (Unicamp) and a PhD in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Manitoba (2002), Canada. Since 2008, she is a researcher at the Center for Environmental Studies and Research (NEPAM) at Unicamp, where she co-coordinates the Commons Conservation and Management research group (CGCommons) and the Ecosystem Management and Ecology Laboratory (LEME). Between 2009 and 2019, he was Adjunct Professor at the Natural Resources Institute, University of Manitoba, Canada. Between 2018 and 2019, he was Visiting Scholar, at the Department of Resources Economics and Environmental Sociology (REES), Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, University of Alberta, Canada. Dr. Seixas collaborates with the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), where served as Co-Chair of the 1st IPBES Regional Assessment for the Americas and Review Editor for the Sustainable Use of Wild Species Assessment. She is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services ( and collaborates with several national and international research and extension networks, with emphasis on the Community Conservation Research Network. Her research focuses on integrating environmental conservation with local development, through the following themes: commons management, shared management, ecosystem stewardship and environmental governance; human ecology, local and traditional ecological knowledge, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and resilience of socio-ecological systems.
