Karen de Morais Zani holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (2006). She joined Instituto Butantan in 2004, where she conducted scientific initiation, master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies. She obtained a master's degree in General Physiology from the Institute of Biosciences at the University of São Paulo (2009) and a PhD in Biotechnology from the Interunits Program in Biotechnology of the University of São Paulo/Institute of Technological Research/Butantan Institute (2013), with a sandwich period at the University of Lille (Lille, France). Currently, she is a researcher at the Pathophysiology Laboratory of Instituto Butantan, focusing primarily on Toxinology, with emphasis on the compositional and functional characterization of snake venoms.
