Rodrigo Martini Paula is a first-year PhD student in English at Rice University specializing in Critical Animal Studies, Posthumanism, Postmodernism, and Systems Theory. He has a bachelor in Letters - Translation Studies from Sao Paulo State University (Ibilce/Unesp; 2007), a masters in Literary Theory from the same university (2010), and a masters in English from the University of Louisville. His theses were "The Reevaluation of the Vietnam War in The Short Timers (1979), by Gustav Hasford, and in its Filmic Adaptation, Full Metal Jacket (1989), by Stanley Kubrick" and "Rethinking Human and Nonhuman Animal Relations in J.
