Graduate (Bachelor) at Biological Sciences from Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto (1982), University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, Master and Ph.D at Biochemistry from Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine, USP (1988;1994, respectively). Has experience in Biochemistry, focusing on Neurochemistry, acting on the following subjects: neuroprotection, neuroethology, glutamate and GABA systems. He has developed studies using animal and plants from the Brazilian biodiversity, as models of anticonvulsant and neuroprotective drugs, which may in the near future serve as remedies to control diseases, with less side effects, of the nervous tissue (Alzheimer's, epilepsy, glaucoma, Huntington, etc.).
