Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Biociências (IB) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
Since embarking in a career in science over 13 years ago, I have gained experience in five cutting edge laboratories across three continents and acquired extensive expertise in the areas of human genetics, bioinformatics, cancer, molecular biology, microbiology and gene and cell therapy, including the construction and production of recombinant viral vectors (lentivirus and AAV), generation and differentiation of iPSCs, and the use of humanized mouse models. Currently I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Stanford University (USA) (Program in Human Gene Therapy - Professor Mark A. Kay) developing novel gene delivery systems to assist in the treatment of genetic and infectious diseases. I am passionate about scientific research and have developed an immense appreciation for the translational potential of biotechnologies to improve human health. Two of my main goals for the near future include developing strategies to facilitate/accelerate the transition of gene and cell therapies to treat patients with genetic and acquired diseases as well as applying new molecular technologies, such as next-generation sequencing (NGS) platform, for sensitive disease diagnostic, therapy and prevention purposes.
