Wagner Xavier de Camargo is an anthropologist and researches multiple expressions of gender and sexuality in sports. He is currently assistant professor at the State University of Campinas, in the Faculty of Education. He completed two postdoctoral fellowships in Social Anthropology at the Federal University of São Carlos, respectively funded by FAPESP (2013-2016) and by CAPES (2016-2019). In terms of academic training, he holds a PhD in Human Sciences from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC, 2008-2012), a Master's degree in Physical Education (Unicamp, 1997-1999), a Bachelor's degree in Sociology (Unicamp, 1996), and a degree in Anthropology (Unicamp, 1995) as well. Since 2018, he has been pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education (Unicamp) and simultaneously a second PhD in Social Anthropology (UFSCar). He is also a full member of the Brazilian Anthropological Association (ABA) and a founding member of the Brazil-Germany Network for the Internationalization of Higher Education (REBRALINT). He was a fellow of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst/DAAD) in a doctoral internship at the Lateinamerika-Institut, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany (2009-2011) and continues as a permanent collaborator. He is also a member of the Laboratory of Studies of Leisure Practices and Sociabilities (LELuS) and coordinator of the research line "LGBTQIA+ Soccer," of the Brazilian Soccer Studies project at the National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT). In 2013, his thesis was awarded by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), in the best interdisciplinary thesis category. In 2021, he published his first book, "Leituras de Gênero e Sexualidade nos Esportes" (Gender and Sexuality Readings in Sports), through a public call for proposals from EdUFSCar.
