Jose Onildo Betioli Contel

Dr. Contel is graduate at Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto of the Universidade de São Paulo (1964). He made specialization in Psychiatry in Ribeirão Preto University General Hospital (1965-1966) and in the Universidade do Rio Grande do Sul, by Clinica Pinel (1967-1968). His university career began in the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo, in 1969. His doctorate in Neurology was made in 1974, researching inpatients with long term hospitalization, in a large psychiatric hospital with more than 1000 beds. In 1974 he had the opportunity to reinstall a Day Hospital in the Hospital das Clínicas da FMRP-USP, which directed for 35 years, till his retirement in April/31/2009. In the years of 1976, 1977 and 1978 he was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Michigan, at Ann Arbor, USA. He made specialization in group psychotherapy (1981-1987) and nowadays teaches it in the residency of psychiatry. He is asking to the Departamento de Neurociências e Ciências do Comportamento da FMRP-USP for a position of Professor Colaborador Senior. He has experience in Medicine and Psychiatry on the following subjects: group psychotherapy, day hospital, general hospital in psychiatry, psychoses, psychiatric hospital and psychiatric epidemiology with inpatients and partial hospitalization.
