Holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1984), with emphasis on Aeronautics. Completed a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1992 and a PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University in 1997. Visiting scholar on sabbatical leave from 2016 to 2017 at the Department of Aeronautical and Vehicle Engineering of KTH (Royal Institute of Technology ) in Stockholm (Sweden) and from 2008 to 2009 at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University in Palo Alto (USA). Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department (DEMEC) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) from 1989 to 2009 and of the Mechanical Design Department (DPM) of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) from 2010 to 2012. Currently returned to the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEMEC) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) as full professor. Experience in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, with emphasis on stress analysis in structures and composite materials, working mainly on the following topics: application of composite materials in infrastructure, structural health monitoring, finite element method, stress analysis , composite materials, fatigue and fracture.
