Bachelor's in Veterinary Medicine from Universidade Estadual de Londrina (1999), Master's at Veterinary Medicine from Universidade Estadual de Londrina (2000) and Doctorate in Food Science from Universidade de São Paulo (2005). Prof. Nero developed training at the Washington State Univeristy, Pullman, WA, USA, between 2019 August and 2020 July (PVE Sr. fellowship, CAPES). Prof. Nero develops academic activities in Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Viçosa, MG, Brazil, as full time professor of Food Inspection for the undergraduate course of Veterinary Medicine and researcher in the area of food microbiology, with financial support from CNPq, CAPES and FAPEMIG. Vice-president of the Brazilian Society of Microbiology (SBM, Gestão 2022-2023, Gestão 2024-2025), and current president of the Brazilian Association for Food Protection (BRAFP, since 2022). Prof. Nero has experience in the area of Food Science, under the specific themes: Lactic Acid Bacteria (antimicrobial activity, bacteriocins production and characterization, technological and probiotic activities, virulence) and Foodborne Pathogens (occurrence and prevalence, key points for contamination, pathogenic characteristics, prevention and control of contamination).
