Birthplace: Brazil

Bachelor's degree in Biomedicine from the Federal University of Alfenas (Unifal-MG) and Master's and Doctorate in Sciences from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). Based in Lund, Sweden. Post-doctoral researcher at Lund University. International experience as guest researcher at the Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet), Denmark. Research areas: pathogen-host interaction, immunological characteristics and diagnosis of bacterial and viral respiratory infections. Interests include biofilms and microbial resistance in chronic infections. My current research aims to characterize the immune response in asthma and COPD using assays based on immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry. I also work on the immunological characteristics of patients with cystic fibrosis and chronic lung infections, and of patients who have been infected with or immunized against the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, causing Covid-19. My scientific background also includes early diagnosis of chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infection in cystic fibrosis using ELISA-based methods for serum and mucosal antibody detection; epidemiology and clinical significance of non-tuberculous mycobacteria in cystic fibrosis and other conditions; and virulence factors of the yeast Cryptococcus neoformans. Other experiences include teaching (in the disciplines of scientific methodology, public health and scientific writing) and editing of scientific and academic texts. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
