Antônio Ralph Medeiros de Sousa

Holds a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Universidade São Judas Tadeu (2009), and a Master's (2014) and Ph.D. (2018) in Public Health from the School of Public Health at the University of São Paulo (FSP/USP), with a concentration in Epidemiology. Completed postdoctoral research at FSP/USP and at the Helmholtz Institute for Environmental Research (UFZ), Germany. Works in the fields of epidemiology, medical entomology, and ecological modeling, with an emphasis on the eco-epidemiology of Culicidae and the transmission dynamics of mosquito-borne diseases. His research integrates empirical data with statistical and computational modeling approaches, focusing on the understanding of complex transmission systems. During his Master's studies, he investigated patterns of mosquito diversity in urban parks in the city of São Paulo. His Ph.D. research focused on the population dynamics of Plasmodium vectors in the Atlantic Forest, developing a mathematical model to explain the zoonotic transmission dynamics of malaria in this region. During his postdoctoral training, he worked on the development of computational models to simulate the transmission dynamics of sylvatic yellow fever and its spread in fragmented landscapes. He has practical experience in vector surveillance and control, having worked at the Synanthropic Fauna Division of the Zoonosis Control Center of São Paulo (2007-2009). He also completed a professional training program in Medical Entomology at FSP/USP (2011-2012). He was awarded a Level 5 Technical Training Fellowship by FAPESP, working on the analysis and modeling of data on mosquito diversity and the risk of malaria and yellow fever outbreaks in the Atlantic Forest.
