Hugo Neri is a researcher at the Center for Artificial Intelligence (IBM-Fapesp-USP) and a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering and Mechanical Systems at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo. He serves as a visiting professor in the Department of Sociology at Innsbruck University, Austria, and is a member of the Editorial Board of The American Sociologist Journal.He was previously a Visiting Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge, UK. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of São Paulo (FAPESP fellow) with research internships at Goethe Universität, Frankfurt am Main (DAAD fellow) and at the Knowledge Lab at the University of Chicago (FAPESP fellow). He earned his Master's degree in Sociology from the University of São Paulo (CNPq fellow) and a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the same institution (CNPq undergraduate research fellow).Dr. Neri is the author of "The Risk Perception of Artificial Intelligence" (Lexington) and has developed interdisciplinary research focused on the foundation, representation, and applications of common sense in Artificial Intelligence, as well as risk perception of Artificial Intelligence. Currently, he is expanding his research to include Constitutional AI models, exploring their alignment with human values, ethical implications, and governance frameworks.Beyond his academic work, he is an entrepreneur who co-founded a technology company focused on innovative browser-based platforms and game development. His expertise spans game engine architecture, financial markets analysis, and derivatives trading. This blend of theoretical knowledge and practical business experience informs his unique approach to technology development and implementation.His main fields of knowledge include Artificial Intelligence, Social Epistemology, and Sociology. His primary research areas are Common Sense, Social Theory, Risk Perception, Artificial Intelligence, Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science, and Cognitive Sciences.
