She graduated in Nutrition from the University of São Paulo in 1979, obtained a master's degree in 2000 and a PhD in Applied Human Nutrition in 2005, also from the same university. She completed two post-doctorates at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences/USP. Her specialty is Nutrition, with an emphasis on Food Composition and Unavailable Carbohydrates, focusing on topics such as clinical trials with healthy volunteers, evaluation of glycemic responses (glycemic index and glycemic load), satiety, gastrointestinal hormones and intestinal function. She also manages the Brazilian Food Composition Table - USP and has extensive experience with food composition databases and compilation of chemical data on foods and nutrients. She is a researcher at the Food Research Center FoRC/Cepid/FAPESP. In 2024, she received an Honorable Mention (2nd place) in the ALUMNI Award of the University of São Paulo, which recognizes alumni who have excelled in their fields and positively impacted society.
