Dr. Victor S. Pylro is a microbial ecologist holding experience on molecular microbial ecology. He completed his Bachelor s degree in Biological Sciences at Federal University of Ouro Preto/Brazil in 2008, and earned his Master s and Ph.D. degrees (Agricultural Microbiology) from Viçosa Federal University/Brazil, with Sandwich Doctorate at Rothamsted Research/UK (Advisor: Dr. Penny R. Hirsch). He is one of the initiators of the Brazilian Microbiome Project (BMP-http://www.brmicrobiome.org), a Brazilian Microbial Genomics Consortium and Database. Dr. Victor Pylro is working closely to several Brazilian and International researchers and companies? technicians, in order to standardize methods and protocols to be adopted by the BMP. Also, he is the coordinator of the Committee of Knowledge Transfer of the National Institute of Science and Technology: Microbiome (recently launched), concerned in the formation of human resources and the transfer of knowledge to society, by developing activities aimed at overcoming educational challenges in Brazil. Currently, he is based in the Federal University of Lavras (Brazil), as a Professor Adjunct of the Department of Biology. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
This proposal aims to use a combination of high-throughput sequencing of DNA and RNA fromenvironmental samples, together with data from culture-based approaches - genomics and physiology, togather information on microbial communities functioning in soils found in the Brazilian Amazonia. Thiscombination will constitute an effort to correlate the soil disturbances, microbial taxonomical g...
