Fabrício R. Santos is full professor at UFMG, biologist and geneticist with a PhD in 1995 at UFMG in Belo Horizonte, pos-doctorate in 1997 at Oxford University, United Kingdom, and in 2008 at National Geographic Society and University of Pennsylvania, USA, resident professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEAT) of UFMG, full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, and invited member of the Ibero-American Academy of Evolutionary Biology (AIBE), advisor of the genetics committee of the National Research Council of Brazil (CNPq, 2012-2015), Visiting Professor at the Universidad San Martin de Porres of Lima, Peru, Director of the Taxonomic Collections Center of UFMG (2015-2019) and President of the Brazilian Society of Genetics (2014-2016). He published hundreds of articles in scientific journals and popular magazines, as well as books and chapters. He is supervisor in the graduate programs of Genetics, Zoology, and in Ecology at UFMG, but he also supervised PhD studies in the programs of Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, and Animal Sciences, all from UFMG. He coordinates research projects funded by public and private institutions from Brazil and abroad. He works mainly in natural history and biological evolution using DNA and analyses of population genetics, phylogeography and phylogeny applied to biodiversity and the human species.
