I am a nature lover who became interested in the technical aspects of how ecosystems function from a young age. I acquired part of this knowledge during my undergraduate studies (Biology at UFSCar, São Carlos), my masters degree (Environmental Sciences, UFSCar, São Carlos), and my PhD (Plant Ecology at the University of Tartu, Estonia). Exchange programs were of great importance in my learning process. Among them, I highlight: Università di Bologna, Italy (2013/2014), University of Edinburgh, Scotland (2018/2019), and University of South Bohemia in Ceské Budejovice, Czech Republic (2021/2022). I am interested in human-driven processes that are reshaping natural vegetation and relocating species to areas beyond their natural dispersal potential, at an unprecedented pace. Lately, Ive expanded my focus to include other groups such as fish and birds. To identify current scenarios and project potential future changes, I propose using approaches such as functional ecology and the concept of Dark Diversity. My work ranges from greenhouse experiments, through experimental plot-level scales, to large-scale investigations with global scope, and, when feasible, I integrate these different approaches to gain a more holistic understanding of populations and communities. Through these approaches, I aim to suggest plans for biodiversity conservation. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
