Danielle Macedo Gaspar

I hold a degree in pharmacy from the Federal University of Ceará (1995), a master's degree (2000), and a PhD in pharmacology from the Federal University of Ceará (2005). I am an associate professor of physiology at the UFC Faculty of Medicine. I was deputy head of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine (FAMED) at UFC in the 20152017 and 20172019 biennials. I currently hold the position of deputy director and coordinator of academic programs at FAMED-UFC. I am a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Programs in Pharmacology, Medical Microbiology, and Translational Medicine at UFC. I am a researcher at INCT-Translational Medicine and at the Medicines Research and Development Center (NPDM/UFC). I am the leader of the research group on Cellular bases of psychiatric disorders and translational medicine registered with CNPq. I have experience in the area of translational neuroscience, with an emphasis on neurodevelopment and developmental-based psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and autism. My current research focus is on studying the consequences of exposure to adversity in early life (such as immune challenges and maternal separation) for the development of neurodevelopmental-based mental disorders such as schizophrenia, autism, and depression, as well as redirecting drugs for the treatment of mental disorders. The main scientific mechanisms studied are oxidative and nitrosative stress, neuroinflammatory and neurotrophic mechanisms, estrogenic signaling, and the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). I am also interested in the brain-gut-microbiota axis. I have already supervised offers for master's and doctoral theses. I coordinate projects financed by CNPq and FUNCAP. I am a member of the editorial board of the Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria. I am a reviewer for international journals such as Schizophrenia Research, Brain Behavior and Immunity, Neuropharmacology, and Neuroscience, among others. I have been a member of the Brazilian Society of Neurosciences and Behavior (SBNeC) since 2010 and a full member of the Schizophrenia International Research Society (SIRS) since 2019.
