Alberto holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2002), a master's degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2005) and a PhD in Computer Science from Imperial College London, University of London (2009). During his doctorate, he was an intern at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, NY, USA. Alberto was a postdoctoral fellow for 3 years at Lancaster University, between 2009 and 2012. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Informatics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He served as Coordinator of the Special Committee on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (CE-RESD) of SBC (2019-2021), Member of the Board of Directors (CADM) of the Rede Nacional de Pesquisa (RNP) (2020-2023) and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Computing at UFRGS (PPGC/UFRGS) (2023-2025). He served as General Co-Chair of the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC'19), TPC co-chair of the IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management (IM'21), TPC co-chair of the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC'21), TPC co-chair of the Brazilian Symposium on Information Security and Computer Systems (SBSeg'22), and TPC co-chair of the International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM'25)..
