received a Telecommunications Engineering degree from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) in 2003. In 2005 and 2008, Miguel received, respectively, the M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). In 2008 he received the "bolsa de doutorado nota 10", which is a award granted to students with top-level performance in all Graduation Programs in Rio de Janeiro. He acted in 2009 as an associate professor with the Telecommunications Engineering Department of UFF and, now, he is an associate professor with the Electronics and Computer Science Engineering Department of the Polytechnic School of UFRJ and a full professor of the Electrical Engineering Program of COPPE/UFRJ. Miguel has spent one year as an invited Professor with LIP6 at the Sorbonne Université, in France, he was two times in a row Young Scientist of Rio de Janeiro State ("Jovem Cientista do Nosso Estado") from FAPERJ (2015-2018, 2018-2021), Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Science (ABC) (2018-2022), coordinator of the Special Committee on Computer Networking and Distributed Systems of SBC (2021-2023), member of the board of directors of the National Computer Networking Laboratory (Laboratório Nacional de Redes de Computadores - LARC) (2019-2025), and member of the Administration Council (Conselho de Administração - CADM) of the Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa (RNP) (2021-2024). Currently, he is associated editor of Annals of Telecommunications journal from Springer, researcher level 2 from the Brazilian government (CNPq), senior member of IEEE, and Scientist of Rio de Janeiro State ("Cientista do Nosso Estado") from FAPERJ. Prof. Miguel also leads research projects funded by Brazilian national agencies such as CNPq, CAPES, and FAPERJ and by partnership programs with the industry. His research interests are predominantly on computer science and his research areas are on computer networking, network and data science, cybersecurity, and applied machine learning.
