Atílio Tomazini Júnior is a Professor at the Institute of Physics at the University of São Paulo. His main research interests are focused on Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics, with an emphasis on protein-protein interactions (RAS/NORE1A, AChE/Fas), luciferases, and proteins associated with the Golgi complex. He graduated in the first class of the Physical and Biomolecular Sciences Program at the University of São Paulo (2010) and completed his masters (2012) and doctoral (2016) degrees in Applied Physics at the same institution, under the supervision of Dr. Igor Polikarpov. During his masters studies, he conducted part of his research at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in France (5 out of 24 months), under the supervision of Dr. Sasha Popov. During his doctoral studies, he carried out part of his work at the University of Manitoba in Canada (1 out of 4 years), under the supervision of Dr. David B. Levin.Atílio completed postdoctoral research at the University of São Paulo (20162017) under the supervision of Dr. Igor Polikarpov; at the Brazilian Biorenewables National Laboratory (CNPEM)/UFSCar (20182021) under the supervision of Drs. Mario T. Murakami and Vadim R. Viviani; and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (20212024) under the supervision of Dr. Julia M. Shifman. He has extensive experience in techniques such as DNA cloning, protein expression and purification, biophysical studies (including circular dichroism and fluorescence), and Structural Biology (protein crystallization, data collection, and structure determination).
