Birthplace: Brazil

Currently a professor at UFSC, I have completed post-doctoral studies at the University of Ottawa and McGill University (Canada), as well as at the University of São Paulo (CEPID-FAPESP NeuroMat). I develop stochastic models of hippocampal circuits responsible for memory, perception, navigation and localization, and I also study dynamics in brain networks of patients with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy measured by MRI. I study the influence of self-organization in these deterministic and stochastic excitatory systems (neural networks and isolated cells) through nonlinear dynamics and their phase transitions (synchronization, percolation, Ising, etc). Some examples of these systems are coupled maps, cellular automata, and coupled nonlinear differential equations. In the long term, my research aims to develop methods and technological applications to automate tasks, as well as assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of brain diseases and health conditions, such as epilepsy, blindness, Alzheimer's, etc. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
