Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas (ICB)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Biomedical scientist (BSc), MSc/PhD in HostPathogen Relationship (USP) with postdoctoral training at ICB-USP and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). Beatriu de Pinós (AGAUR) researcher at ISGlobals Glycobiology Lab, professor associat at the University of Barcelona, and Volunteer Professor at UNIFAL-MG (Brazil). Research combines parasitology, biochemistry and molecular biology of Plasmodium falciparum, focusing on isoprenoid metabolism (prenols, prenylquinones, ubiquinone and dolichol pathways) and its interface with glycans/N-glycosylation to identify and validate therapeutic targets for malaria. Uses genetic engineering (CRISPR/Cas9, regulatable KO/KD), lipidomics and proteomics to validate essential enzymes, define salvage routes, and link metabolism to drug efficacy. Also evaluates bioactive compounds (plant extracts and synthetic analogues), probing mechanisms and synergy with clinical antimalarials such as fosmidomycin and atovaquone. Teaching spans cell culture, in vitro/in vivo assays and quantitative methods; outreach includes health education and rational medicinal-plant use. Current interests: isoprenoidN-glycosylation crosstalk, host-derived prenols, and metabolism-guided combinations to overcome antimalarial resistance. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
