Felipe de Almeida Fernandes

I am a permanent faculty member and substitute coordinator of the postgraduate program at the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais where I conduct research funded through the Young Researcher grant from FAPESP. I am also the Data Release Manager for the S-PLUS survey, where I am responsible for photometric calibration and the organization of data releases for the main survey.I hold both a bachelor's degree and a Ph.D. in Astronomy, both from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (OV/UFRJ). I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of São Paulo (IAG/USP) for 5 years with a FAPESP scholarship, including a one-year research internship abroad at NOIRLab (Tucson, USA); in addition to 8 extra months of postdoctoral work at the Valongo Observatory. The main focus of my doctoral thesis was stellar dating through Galactic kinematics, involving the use of theoretical evolutionary stellar models and Bayesian isochronal dating. My main research areas include Galactic structure and the search for and characterization of low-metallicity stars.I was a Collaborating Professor at USP through the "Programa de Atração e Retenção de Talentos da USP," where I taught the course "Introduction to Astronomy" for four semesters. Additionally, I completed two teaching internships during my Ph.D. and served as a monitor for three semesters during my bachelor's degree.I also have experience in science communication, being one of the founders of the Astrotubers channel on YouTube, a collaborator on the Ad Astra program, and the organizer of the lecture series Astronomia ao Meio Dia Furthermore, during my Ph.D., I served as a representative for postgraduate students.
