The aggregation of amylin or IAPP (Islet Amyloid Polypeptide) in insoluble polymeric protein fibers (or pancreatic amyloid) is among the factors leading to loss of pancreatic beta cell mass observed in Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2).
