Laura Silvia Valente de Macedo is a research fellow at the Getulio Vargas Foundation School of Business Administration (FGV-EAESP) at the Cener for Studies on Infrastructure and Environmental Solutions (GVCeisa, since 2020) and the Center for Research, Innovation and Dissemination (CEPID-Cities, since 2024). She is a collaborating researcher at the Global Cities Synthesis Center USP, Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of São Paulo (IEA/USP) since July 2022. She was a postdoctoral research associate with a FAPESP scholarship, between 2019 and 2022 at FGV-EAESP. She has a doctorate (2017) and master's degree (2000) from the postgraduate program in environmental science at the Institute of Energy and Environment, at the University of São Paulo (PROCAM / IEE-USP). She also has an MSc in environmental management from the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) at the University of Oxford (1998), and has a degree in architecture and urban planning from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (1980).She carried out consultancy work on sustainability policies and management, integrating project teams for various organizations, such as WRI, CEBDS and the World Bank, among others, from February 2012. She has participated in several publications as co-author, co-editor and collaborator, since 2000.In her personal capacity she has participated in expert councils and committees, including the Brazilian Panel on Climate Change (PBMC), in 2012-2013 and the IES-Brazil project (Economic and Social Implications of Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Scenarios in Brazil 2030 and 2050). She has been an honorary member of the ICLEI-South America advisory committee since 2021 and was president of the Board of Directors of Greenpeace Brazil between 2012 and 2013.From May 2011 to January 2012, she was director of Sustainable Production and Consumption at the Ministry of the Environment, having coordinated the preparation of the government's Sustainable Production and Consumption Action Plan, launched on November 23, 2011.In September 2002, she was hired by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) as coordinator for South America of the Cities for Climate Protection Campaign (CCP), and in March 2003 she became regional director for Latin America. and Caribbean (ICLEI_LACS), a position she held until March 2011.As a member of environmentalist Fabio Feldmanns team, she was coordinator of the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change (FBMC) between August 2000 and July 2002; she was also his cabinet advisor in Congress between 1992 and 2002 and in the State Secretariat for the Environment in São Paulo during his term between 1994 and 1997. Her main activities were focused on urban sustainability policies and management.Until starting a career in the area of public policy and environmental management in 1991, Laura worked as an architect and translator for ten years.
