Graduated in Psychology at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). Holds a Master's degree in Health Sciences at the Nursing Graduate Program at UFSCar, with a research internship at the University of Victoria (UVic), Canada, and funding from CAPES and FAPESP during the master's program. Currently doing a jointly-supervised (cotutelle) PhD student in the Nursing Graduate Program at UFSCar and the Social Dimensions of Health program at the University of Victoria, Canada. During her PhD, she received funding from FAPESP and is currently supported by CAPES.Luiza has been studying the topic of suicidal behavior in adolescence since 2019, when she began her research as a FAPESP-funded undergraduate research fellow, and has currently 12 published papers in the field of child and youth mental health. In her doctoral research, she applies Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy and arts- and applied-theater-based methodologies to elevate the experiences of adolescents with the mental health system and suicide prevention, while rethinking how our society responds to suicide.She is a member of the Research, Teaching, and Study Group on Primary Health Care in Schools (PROASE), the Health and Family Research Group at UFSCar, and the Critical Suicide Studies International Network.
