Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Instituto de Física Gleb Wataghin (IFGW)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

He has undergraduate and master's degree in physics from the University of Brasilia (UnB) (1984 and 1987) and Ph.D. in Electron Spectroscopy - Uppsala Universitet (1991). He got three years of postdoctoral studies in the Swedish synchrotron radiation laboratory, Max-Lab (1994) and Libre Docent at UNICAMP (2008). He was an adjunct professor at UnB and researcher at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Source (LNLS). Since 03/2011 Arnaldo is an associate professor at UNICAMP. He has experience in the field of mass and electron spectroscopy applied to atoms, molecules and surfaces. He is working on the following topics: synchrotron radiation, high resolution XPS, Auger and resonant Auger spectroscopy and the study of the electronic structure and fragmentation channels of ozone environmental important molecules. He developed a new type of spectroscopic technique which allows obtaining a lot more quantum information from atoms that can be laser cooled and trapped. The researcher perform research also in photolysis processes in multi-layer molecules ice analogues which are important for the molecular-origin-of-life issue. Recently he pioneered, in americas, the study of the molecular surface of aqueous solutions (eg water and solutions). This line of research has impact on the environmental field in the development of advanced solar fuels and in the understanding of radiation effects on bio-systems. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
