Carolina Martins Lazaro

Graduated in Biomedical Sciences from São Francisco University (2018), with extensive experience in general and cardiovascular physiology, biochemistry, and lipid and energy metabolism. Began her scientific career in 2014 at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Pharmacology under the supervision of Prof. Giovana Tófoli, working on sustained drug delivery systems. In 2015, she joined the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory, supervised by Prof. Fernanda Marinho Bruschi Priviero and Prof. Mário Ângelo Claudino, where she conducted studies in cardiovascular pharmacology, focusing on hypertension, obesity, and antioxidant therapies. From 2016 to 2019, she worked in the Quality Assurance Department at the Pharmaceutical Bioequivalence Center (UNIFAG), gaining experience in process control and analytical validation. Between 2019 and 2024, she pursued a direct Ph.D. in Molecular and Morphofunctional Biology at the Institute of Biology, University of Campinas (UNICAMP), under the supervision of Prof. Helena C. F. Oliveira and co-supervision of Prof. Ana Paula Davel. Her research focused on lipid metabolism, vascular function and dysfunction, perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT), and sex-related differences in vascular regulation, integrating physiological, biochemical, and molecular approaches. Currently, she is a FAPESP postdoctoral fellow at the Mitochondrial Metabolism Laboratory (mmLab), Institute of Biology UNICAMP, under the supervision of Prof. Leonardo dos Reis Silveira, where she investigates the molecular mechanisms of muscle thermogenesis mediated by sarcolipin (SLN) and its transcriptional regulators. She has solid expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques (RT-qPCR, Western blotting, muscle cell culture, immunofluorescence, and gene/protein expression analysis) as well as in animal handling and experimental procedures.
