Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Faculdade de Engenharia Mecânica (FEM)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Graduated as mechanical engineer at ITA (Aeronautics Technological Institute) in 1975. Master (1980) and Doctor (1988) in Mechanical Engineering, area Energy, by later FEC (Campinas School of Engineering), Unicamp. Lecturer at FEC, presently FEM (School of Mechanical Engineering), Unicamp, since 1976 till retirement in 2019. Became Colaborating Professor at FEQ (School of Chemical Engineering), Unicamp, in 2022, for the development os present research (4) At undergraduate level, lectured mainly disciplines of fundamental character in Transport Fenomena (Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics), sometimes disciplines aplied to Refrigeration and Flux Machines, and four times History of Mechanics, covering scientific and technical aspects. At graduate level, lectured mainly the discipline Finite Diferences for Transpor Phenomena, sometimes Simmulation of Thermo-Fluid-Mechanical Systems, and, once, Turbulence. Between 2013 and 2017 was Coordinator of Service of Support to Students, covering socio-economic, educational and lawer suport to students, administration of grants and promotion of cultural activities. The first line of research was Simmulation of Termo-Fluid-Mechanical Systems, which began at his Master thesis (1980) and continued throughout the professional life. From his Doctoral thesis (1988) emerged the lines of research on Numerical Analysis of Transport Phenomena and, undirectly, Modeling of Turbulent Flows. From humanistic interests emerged the cross-disciplinary study on Modes of Production in Brazil. The four lines are presented in sequel: 1- Simmulation of Termo-Fluid-Mechanical Suystems. This line involves, particulalrly, computational simmulation of refrigeration and heat pump devices by compression and by absorption. Simmulation leads to systems of non-linear allgebraic equations, to which an efficient technique is aplied to implement the Newton-Raphson method by reducing the number of effective unknowns. 2- Numerical Analysis of Transport Phenomena. Research on Finite Volume and Finite Difference methods, studying discretization schemes with aplication in fluid mechanics and heat and mass transfer. The most relevant contribution is the UNIFAES scheme (1977) for discretization of advective and diffusive terms of transport equations, including Navier-Stokes. This scheme showed, in various tests, excellent accuracy and high stability, even at high Reynolds, Peclet or Rayleigh numbers, so being ecxcellent for the construction of a DNS (line 4) 3- Modes of Production in Brazil. The concept of mode of production in social sciences allows a unified understanding of the technical and economic development and the social and political development of a society. The subject of the modes of production in the history of Brazil involved an important polemics, which was recovered in great part and resumed in the book "Modes of seeing the production of Brazil", by this researcher, edited by Editora Autores Associados e pela EDUC, with finantial support of FAPESP (2004). The concept of modes of production was also employed to structure the undergraduate discipline History of Mechanics. 4- Modeling of Turbulent Flows. Search for statistical model of turbulence based on velocity-vorticity scalar and vector products (helicity and Lamb cevtor), of known relevance to the phisics of turbulence. Presently, in cooperation with researchers from of IC (Computation Institute) of Unicamp, the computaional tool of that research, a Direct Numerical Solver (DNS) based in the scheme UNIFAES, translating to multi-processing programs already tested in mono-processing.
