Carlos R. K. Paier graduated in Biochemistry (Bachelor's Degree) at the Federal University of Viçosa (2007), and earned his Master in Science (2009), and Doctor of Philosophy (2014) degrees in Functional and Molecular Biology (concentration in Biochemistry) by the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He developed postgraduate work at the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio). He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratory of Experimental Oncology (LOE) of the Drug Research and Development Center (NPDM) of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), where he currently works as a researcher and advisor. He is also a researcher at the Laboratory of Drugs and Proteins Analyzes, at the NPDM, where he guides Proteomics research with the QExactive Plus Biopharma mass spectrometer (Thermo Fisher Scientific). He is a Pharmacology Professor at the Phisiology and Pharmacology Department (DFF) of the Faculty of Medicine (FAMED), UFC. He has experience in Molecular Biology, Recombinant Proteins, Proteomics, Experimental Oncology, Prospection of New Antineoplastic Drugs, and Development of New Biomaterials for Medical Use. Among other projects, he participates in the pre-clinical development of a non-tubulinic antimitotic from the pterocarpan family, free or conjugated to an anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody (HER1); in the search for new Myelodysplastic Syndromes biomarkers, and in the development of products derived from tilapia skin, used as biological dressings, biomaterials, and supplies for medical use in different specialties. Winner of the Abril DASA Award for Medical Innovation 2019 - Treatment Category, the EURO 2020 Award for Medical Innovation, the Abril DASA Award for Medical Innovation 2022, and the Minds for Innovation Award 2022 (Bayer).
