Dr. Thipe holds a, BSc degree in Biotechnology and an MSc degree in Nanoscience from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, where his research was focused in mycotoxicology by using nanomaterials such as gold nanoparticles for their antifungal activity against Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus spp. He is a Fulbright Alumni and a PhD degree in Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia, United States. His research expertise in Green Nanotechnology with emphasis in Nanoimmunotherapeautic medicine and Nuclear Medicine for cancer therapy. Dr. Thipe is has served as a research consultant at the University of Johannesburg, Department of Food and Biotechnology and at the University of Pretoria in Plant Medicinal Sciences. Dr. Thipe is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Nuclear and Energy Research Institute in the Center for Chemical and Environmental Technology (CQMA), São Paulo, Brazil where he conducts research in the development of next-generation nanomaterials for combinational (nanoimmunotherapeautic and radiotherapeautic agents) cancer therapy (e.g. prostate, breast, colon, melanoma and pancreatic cancers) and the use of environmentally friendly nanomaterials in energy production. Dr. Thipe has currently collaboration with the University of the Western Cape, Department of Biotechnology in the Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory (EBL) and Ubabiologix - a clean biotech company focused on industrial wastewater treatment from coal, gold, and platinum mines for removing environmental toxins through new pathways of bioremediation (e.g. organic bioremediation) system.
