Alcântara is a Brazilian anthropologist with profuse experience in conducting theoretical and applied research. His research agenda has drawn from a diversified academic and professional background, demonstrating that Interdisciplinarity is a core characteristic of his intellectual project. In his ethnographic and archival studies, Alcântaras major concern is how ideas and knowledge are constructed from concrete experiences in past and present-day Brazil, and how they are registered and expressed. A general interest present in his works is to analyze how memories and future projects, in different empirical contexts, shape common visions about Brazilian society and culture.Alcântara has worked in different research fields in rural and urban contexts. His doctoral research consisted of the ethnographic inquiry about how small coffee farmers elaborate knowledge within the initial contact with financial inclusion State policies for family farming, such as accessing subsidized microcredit.
