Abstract
Hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) is a hypoxia responsive transcription factor activated by oxygen (O2) imbalance between tissue demand and supply. In reactive astrocytes HIF-1± upregulation is related to ischemic tolerance, or preconditioning.
