Lylyan Fragoso Pimentel

CV Lattes ORCID

Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Biociências (IB)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

B.Sc. in Biological Sciences (2012), M.S. (2013) and Ph.D. (2018) in Biotechnology focused on Human Genetics and Molecular Biology (Federal University of Pernambuco, Recife). Dr. Pimentel started her work on projects related to the genetic association of Alzheimer's and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Diseases (2010-2012; LIKA/UFPE). Later, she studied the genetic diagnosis and the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underpinning Primary Familial Cerebral Calcifications (PFBC) (2013-2018; LIKA/UFPE). Working as a Visiting Scholar at ETSU/USA (2015 and 2017, PDSE/CAPES), she collaborated in several projects that led to the discovery of new therapeutic targets for stroke/neuroinflammation treatment, relevant area of neuroinfection and stem cells. At the Human Genome and Stem-Cell Research Center (São Paulo University, CEGH-CEL) (2018-2020), she worked on the establishment of the 80Mais Project biobank, a collection of PBMC of cognitively healthy elderly volunteers in the study about the investigation of protective genes linked to the preservation of brain functions during aging. Later, she joined the XenoBR Project (CEGH-CEL / USP) as a Research Technician Molecular Cellular Biology (2019-2020) where was responsible for the production of genetically modified porcine cell line as part of the first phase during the development of viable pigs for xenotransplantation in humans. She worked as Postdoctoral Researcher at the XenoBR Project (2020-2022) with a project aimed at the application of genetic engineering tools for the generation of a humanized swine model capable of overcoming the human immune barriers that make xenotransplantation unfeasible. She currently works as a Research Associate at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center (Ohio, United States) where she uses next generation sequencing to investigate genetic variants in patients with craniofacial malformations. She also applies murine and in vitro models to characterize new cellular and molecular mechanisms in neural crest cells. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
