Irene holds a degree in Psychology from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2007) and in Social and Cultural Anthropology from Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (2013). MSc in Primatology from Universitat de Barcelona (2007), followed by another MSc (2014) and a Ph.D. (2019) in Experimental Psychology from the Institute of Psychology, University of São Paulo (IPUSP). Specialized in Experimental Psychology, with a focus on Animal Behavior and Ethology, emphasizing Comparative Psychology in the areas of sexual development and personality, as well as naturalistic studies in primates of the genus Sapajus. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Psychology, University of São Paulo, funded by FAPESP, being a member of the "Behavior, Evolution and Sexuality Lab" led by Dr. Jaroslava V. Valentova. During 2023-24 she was a visiting researcher at the Department of Psychology, University of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Jean-Baptiste Leca. She is member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the International Primatological Society (IPS), the ABS (Animal Behavior Society), the Human Behavior and Evolution Society (HBES), the Brazilian Society of Ethology (SBEt), and the Brazilian Society of Primatology (SBPr).
