BSc and MSc in Computer Science from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1990 and 1993, respectively) and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Rochester (1997). He is full professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais since 2012. His areas of interest include parallel and distributed systems and data mining, as well as their application on fields such as social networks, cybersecurity, health, e-government, and information retrieval, among others.
