Graduate in Physics at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1987), Master (1990) and PhD (1994) in Physics at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. Post-doctoral position at Departamento de Física - Universidade Federal de Pernambuco from 1994 until 1996, working with Chaos in Lasers. Post-doctoral position at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (Ecole Normale Superieure - France) from 1996 until 1998, working with Quantum Optics with Cold Atoms and Diode Lasers. Presently, I am a full professor at Universidade Federal Fluminense, CNPq Research Fellow 1C, and FAPERJ Fellow "Cientista do Nosso Estado". My research topics are Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, with emphasis in quantum noise in optical systems, parametric down conversion, twin photons generation, optical patterns and vortices. In 2022 I was elected as a FELLOW MEMBER of the OPTICA Society (former Optical Society of America). In the same year I was awarded the Scientific Excellence Prize of the Fluminense Federal University in the Exact and Earth Sciences domain. I've been an editor of Optics Letters since 2021.
