Abstract
Prolonged periods of stress may cause or potentiate pathologies. Stress activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis), ultimately releasing glucocorticoid hormones (GCs) which activate mineralocorticoid (MR) and glucocorticoid (GR) receptors.
