Eugenio Hottz obtained his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation with scholarship period at the University of Utah Department of Medicine. Eugenio is a professor at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) and at the UFJF Graduation Program in Biological Sciences with emphasis in Immunology and Infectious Diseases. His research interests include the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune activation in viral infections, especially regarding the participation of platelets in pathophysiology of dengue and HIV infection. He investigates platelets interactions with leukocytes and endothelial cells and their consequences for inflammatory amplification and pathogenesis of infectious diseases. His work includes the investigation of metabolic alterations in viral infections including metabolic pathways, metabolites and mitochondrial involvement in immune activation and cell death pathways.
