He holds a PhD in Physics from the State University of Campinas (1998), a post-doctorate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2000) and at the Ames Laboratory at DOE (2001). Between 2013 and 2019 he was scientific director of the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory and is currently director of this laboratory. He is also coordinator of the project and construction of the beamlines for the new Brazilian synchrotron light source, Sirius. Its main areas of scientific activity are in the physics of condensed matter, in the use of synchrotron radiation for the study of materials, mainly polymers and magnetic materials, and in the development of instrumentation for synchrotron light.
