Eric Leandro Lima Mendonça

Eric Leandro Lima Mendonça holds a technical degree in Chemistry from the Federal Institute of Sergipe (IFS) and a bachelor's degree in Science and Technology from Ilum School of Science (CNPEM). He works in structural and computational biology, with experience in protein crystallography, bioinformatics, and molecular modeling. He was a FAPESP undergraduate research fellow at the National Laboratory of Biosciences (LNBio/CNPEM), where he studied the human DDX3X protein, attempting to crystallize its full-length construct in order to understand how its IDRs (intrinsically disordered regions) interact with the protein's structured cores. His undergraduate thesis addressed the discovery of NS2B-NS3 protease inhibitors from Orthoflavivirus, using molecular docking and molecular dynamics to screen candidate interacting molecules, and applying LLM-based data mining to characterize current inequalities in research on neglected tropical diseases. He is currently a master's student in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), conducting his research at LNBio/CNPEM under the supervision of Dr. Ivan Rosa e Silva and co-supervision of Dr. Rafael Elias Marques. His master's project investigates the capsid protein (C) of Mayaro virus (MAYV), focusing on biomolecular condensation, coiled-coil structure, and nucleocapsid assembly, integrating approaches from structural biology, biophysics, and bioinformatics.
