B.S. in Agronomic Engineering from University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil (1985), M.Sc. in Entomology from USP, Brazil (1988), Ph.D. in Entomology from Ohio State University (1993) and sabbatical leave at University of California-Berkeley (2007). Hired by USP/ESALQ since 1988, I am currently a full professor in charge of teaching, research and extension in Agricultural Entomology, with expertise on transmission of plant pathogens by insect vectors, especially of fastidious vascular bacteria that affect fruit, vegetable and cereal crops, such as Xylella fastidiosa, Candidatus Liberibacter and Candidatus Phytoplasma. I was Chair of the Graduate Program in Entomology (1998-2000; 2003-2006) and of the Department of Entomology and Acarology (2013-2016) at USP/ESALQ.
