Birthplace: Brazil

Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo (ICB-USP). His research explores how the brain and body communicate bidirectionally, with a focus on the vagus nerves role in shaping neural states and its impact on psychiatric disorders, inflammatory conditions, and motivated behavior a theme he previously investigated as a permanent research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen, Germany. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Fundamental Health Sciences from ICB-USP, where he also conducted undergraduate research in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. He completed his Masters and PhD in Pharmacology at the same institution, with visiting research periods at MIT and Yale University (USA). During his postdoctoral training at USP, he examined biomolecular changes in the nervous system in experimental models of stress-related disorders, including a research stay at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (USA), where he later completed a full postdoctoral fellowship investigating bodybrain interactions in the regulation of motivated behavior.
